Taya is a playful, charming and vivacious three-year old girl from Gaza with a complex congenital heart condition. With the outbreak of war and worsening situation in Gaza, Taya’s condition had deteriorated – she was in urgent need of treatment.

Kinder Relief learned of Taya’s plight in the spring of 2024 – by now Taya had been transferred from Gaza to a hospital in Egypt; however, the doctors could only provide Taya with limited care due to the huge influx of cases from Gaza. Our medical evacuation team prioritized Taya’s case due to its urgency and rapidly secured her acceptance for pro-bono treatment by leading pediatric cardiologists in New York.

With Taya’s treatment confirmed in the United States, a determined and months-long effort by our team obtained passports and US visas for Taya, as well as her mother and sister as companions. Our New York Case Manager then ensured their accommodation and sustenance were organized in advance of their journey to the US. With all the preparations in place, Kinder Relief flew Taya and her companions to New York in September 2024. There, Taya received world-class medical care, successfully underwent surgery, and returned to Egypt in February this year following the completion of the first phase of her treatment in the United States.

In Egypt, Kinder Relief takes care of the essential needs of Taya and her family, and organizes regular medical follow up for Taya. We will continue to support Taya and her family and arrange her eventual return to New York for the further surgery recommended by her cardiologists.
