In a ground-breaking initiative, Kinder Relief carried out the successful evacuation of ten Gazan children from Egypt to Italy together with their companions in April and September 2024 for urgent medical treatment and prosthetic care. This was the first medical evacuation of its kind and offered a beacon of hope to families devastated by conflict.
The evacuated children represented a diverse range of urgent medical cases:
- Four amputees: they received advanced prosthetic limbs, allowing them to regain mobility and a sense of independence.
- Three victims of severe explosive injuries: following initial operations and skin grafts, these young survivors continue their path to recovery through specialized care.
- Two children with Thalassemia: their journey included life-saving bone marrow transplants, providing hope for a brighter, healthier future.
- One child with Cystic Hygroma: this rare condition requires specialized medical intervention available in Italy.

From coordinating safe evacuations to securing pro-bono medical care and organizing accommodation and livelihood support, every step of this project required careful planning and perseverance by our team and partners. Watching these children arrive safely in Italy and witnessing their first steps toward recovery was a deeply moving experience for all involved.
These children endured unimaginable trauma, yet their resilience shines through. Italy’s warm welcome and state-of-the-art facilities provide the environment they need to heal and thrive.
As these children continue on their journey to recovery, we invite our supporters to join us in wishing them strength and success. Their courage inspires us to work with even greater resolve, and we remain committed to expanding this initiative to save more lives.
